This is where the Army messes up. The people who come in the Army should adapt to the regulations in place not the other way around. Now you are going to have to start changing rules for everyone.

SFC (Join to see) I know our politics might be polar opposites sometimes- but that statement shows wisdom beyond your years. It is also the very reason we all dress the same etc. Great response.

Not sure about that. Gays can be billeted together, but heterosexual personnel cannot be co-ed billeted. The Army either doesn't care about the legal aspect of this clear double-standard, or no one has made it a case yet.

In this https://www.rallypoint.com/shared-links/your-uniform-wish-list-8-changes-soldiers-want-now--3 story, SMA Daley states that being able to grow a beard is about readiness? So can a solder who has a beard for religious freedom not have to serve in area where a mask might be required? Where does the line get drawn between religion and duty?

I would be clean shaven. Having a beard can make you lose your seal on your mask. Rather lose a beard than my life Maj Marty Hogan

I haven't researched it fully, but the Israelis and Brits have both allowed bears for a long time and stories that address the issue all say the same -- the beards pose no threat to proper use of the mask. Special operators of all services routinely grow beards; I've not heard of a problem with that group. Same with civilian contractors.

On one hand, I firmly believe in religious freedom, but on the other hand, with Any job you would ever get, civilian or government, you may have to give up some of your freedoms to get that job, especially in the Army. If you enter a profession knowing you may have to shave, you should adapt to the conditions, not have the conditions adapt to you.
