Amazing, he had success and yet IMHO didn't have enough self esteem to deal with reality. I feel sorry for folks like that.
-- She's still successful. What do you mean doesn't have "enough self esteem?" She has more self esteem than a lot of people especially to be her true self. I doubt she wants nor needs any pity from people like you.

Sad that he didn't get counseling...
*She. It's really not that hard to say she. Also how do you know she didn't get any counseling? That's generally part of transitioning. Also I guarantee if you ran into her you'd never known she is transgender.
