Don't know how reliable the sources are but it is an interesting scenario. Turkey thought Trump would restrain him and Trump didn't actually believe Turkey would invade. So here we are. Both Erdogan and Trump were wrong in their assessment. As a result, more death and destruction in the middle east. One can only hope something good comes out of this

The assessment of the Trump position in the article makes sense, but the one for the Erdogan position does not. Erdogan was bluffing as a negotiation? He is CINC of his Army; they can advance as far as they want. He was over-extended domestically and could not call off the invasion? Also makes no sense. Erdogan has been very diligent in eliminating political threats. Immersing the Turkish Army in the Syrian quagmire is the kind of thing that can bring unrest at home, not to mention drawing some ISIS retaliation.
