While their policy bites, wonder what they would do if people in the store were killed, or wounded by the gunman, say they were sorry that it happened?

Yes....even the DoD teaches to confront an active shooter only as a last resort and to leave containment of the situation to those tasked with doing it, i.e. law enforcement

Yeah I'm with you on that SFC William Farrell. Tyler did the right thing regardless of the ROE's as well Tyler should look into playing rugby - that was a nice run down and tackle - on pavement.

From the company’s point of view, I understand the need for liability purposes. However, firing the guy may have been a bit extreme. If I were in the same situation, even knowing I’d be fired, I’d probably do the right thing. The company preaches a pretty strict employee and customer safety comes first message, but I’m not on board with the zero tolerance. Perhaps a formal write up could have followed company policy without ruining his job.

To be fair to Best Buy I do not know the employee's history with the company. However at face value I agree - a write seems like a more appropriate action. I commend his effort and quick response. As well I think his military training may have kicked in - you see a threat you react and counter it.
