Still haven't heard a cogent explanation of why it is in our interest to put boots on the ground in the Ukraine. Or why there is an over whelming need to add them to NATO. Hell, we just green lighted a country with a smaller GDP than Italy the unfettered right to a pipeline that harms the U.S. and entangled Europe. Now we want to give them an opportunity to fill U.S. bodybags, too? Sell Ukraine some weapons and use the profits to check China.

The President clarified that remark.
So, what is the consensus here on RP about the Ukraine issue? What can we do? What should we do?

Britain is sending anti-tank weapons. Turkey has sold armed drones to Ukraine. [Source NHPR.org] I concur with MAJ Ken Landgren
Of the $650 million in weapons transferred none has reached Ukraine. Earlier on Wednesday, POLITICO reported that the weapons transfer requests were still winding their way through Washington's bureaucracy, after multiple officials and people familiar with the process said the transfers were being considered. A State Department spokesperson declined to comment on the status of the transfer, and a spokesperson for the National Security Council did not respond to requests for comment on the status of the transfers. But after the story was published, the administration official said the transfers have been approved. Approved but not yet in transit.
According to agreements between Russia and NATO, exercises involving more than 9,000 troops require 42 days' notice, and if the drill includes more than 13,000 troops, international observers are required. Russia has given no notifications thus far.
Maybe Putin will wait until the Embassy personnel have been evacuated to spare the United States another Benghazi.

SPC Jeff Daley, PhD - Great synopsis. The sooner Ukraine requisites weapons the better in order to train on those weapons systems.

SPC Jeff Daley, PhD - If they do war, I wonder if they will be attacked from Russia and Crimea which is an L shaped formation.

Russia annexed Crimea several years ago, and Europe and NATO did not defend Crimea. I think Ukraine will be left fight on its own.
