The nation's greatest living war heroes might have more in their pensions, thanks to the efforts of two Republican lawmakers.
Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina and Rep. David Jolly of Florida have introduced identical bills that would raise the monthly pension payments for Medal of Honor recipients.
Recipients of the award, the nation's highest military honor, already receive a pension of $1,000 a month. If Graham and Jolly have their way, the stipend would go to $3,000 a month for life -- a "small token," Graham says, of the nation's appreciation for their service.

Ok, but the hero who's recommendation for CMH was downgraded to DSC or SEAL with NAVY Cross gets nothing extra. Just a thought, bros. & sisters. Soldier's Medal pays $50.00 extra a month- **bonus info***

CPT Jim Schwebach - As sometimes happens, I am a prisoner of my historical knowledge. I knew that Officers did not receive the pay, it only goes to Enlisted. I did not check Wikipedia (figured you did that), Criteria for award basically is choosing to risk your own life. Heroism required equivalent to DFC. Both can be won during peacetime. Pay may not (?) start until retirement? I read 10 U.S. Code 3991. It refers to a formula, saying pay can range from 10% but not greater than 75%.
So to stir the pot (a little), Officers do not get the pay, why? Most will naturally risk their life to save a soldier? Or, Officers are paid too much already? I know why officers used to get $110 a month jump pay and enlisted used to get $55.00. We need a separation Pay SPecialist. Greetings CPT, hope this helps!

Who wants to agree with me that all Americans over the age of 12 should know: Most Military Valor Medals are Red, White and Blue combinations. Except AFC has yellow and the Air Medal is blue and gold. All American s should know top FOUR: CMH, DSC (NC, AFC), Silver Star, Bronze w/V device. Bronze stars on campaign ribbons are not the Bronze Star Medal. I have arranged in correct order, box of medals for family of deceased VETS., who were clueless. Children and grandchildren sometimes want to know.

MAJ (Join to see) - Thanks for the clarification on the Soldier's medal pension. Unlike the DFC and Bronze Star it can only be awarded for valor.
