There's a BNSF hub or at least maintenance facility nearby. Their trains pass across the street from me all day

SSG (Join to see) - I can't speak for operations but on the white collar side they are highly acclaimed and I know from Information Technology here in Dallas they are always engaging in large IT projects at Corp HQ in Fort Worth using outside consultants. I know there is a big Salesforce.com project going on there now. I would rate their IT department and it's use of IT Technology as one of the best in the field. Locomotive Engineers, Conductors, Dispatchers......have no idea what their reputation is there.

When I hired on the RR, the old timers asked me who did I know to get this job. I said no one. Used to have to know someone to get hired. Conrail was being bailed out by the government, so they must of been forced to hire vets. Many Vietnam Vets we’re hired. After getting my foot in the door, I got to know many people and got 7 family members and some friends jobs.
I spent 35 years there. The retirement program is great. They took 11 per cent of our pay towards retirement. Enjoying that money now. Back in the early 80’s, Social Security was trying to take us over. We went to DC and protested and won. They wanted our money.

You could easily identified Vets on the RR. Used their fatigues and boots as work clothes.
