Vietnam veterans loved Bob Hope! He was so funny!
I recall a Vietnam POW story about Neil Armstrong. The North Vietnamese tried to show how well they treated our POWs and had about 15 around a table. They gave them letters from home. One of the letters had a USPS stamp on it depicting the moon landing of Apollo 11 back in July 1969. The first POW saw it and whispered to the next POW, giving him the envelope, and it was passed around very quickly. These POWs were so excited, to find this out about 3 years later. The North Vietnamese were not happy with themselves for not censoring the stamp. These POWs had no idea that the USA put a man on the moon! I think this happened in 1972.
They don't make 'em like Neil Armstrong anymore, what a great American he was.
Neil Armstrong’s only appearances on television were with Bob Hope. They became pals on a USO tour of Vietnam in 1969.
