Thanks David. I'm really involved with these stories. Our ship picked up a dead handler and his dog, and a dead dog and his handler. He cried all the way back to Pleiku. I took this in Nam and it's one of my favorite pictures.

In Ramadi I had the honor and privilege to work with both Marine and Navy dog teams searching for explosives, weapons and contraband. These teams were outstanding and after working with them awhile we got to know the dogs just set as well as the human and each one had its own temperament and traits. When we went out the wire on foot patrols if we didn't have a dog team the attitude of my teams changed significantly and we missed the teams a lot. At the end of our rotation they were just one of us and I actually wonder how both members of the teams are.

This story got to me. It still does on the second reading. I have watched K9 teams in action and amazed of the bonds between the dog and handler. If any of those who read this, please make yourself available to adopt a retired military dog. They have served us well and deserve a good "retirement" home.

LTC Thomas Tennant, Thank you for your plea to help out these warrior dogs. I wish I could adopt one, but I already have my hands full.
