Nice share. Was just 19 and sent over there, thinking I’ve seen it all. Talk about war torn, growing up in Chicago, thinking the ghettos where bad, this country was much worse. I agree that for the benefit to continue on and drive on, don’t forget, but also don’t continue to let the past be your main focus.

There are a lot of us who have very troubling memories of what we saw while serving in Bosnia. This is another tragic example of War Criminal or Freedom Fighter labels being applied to the same person(s), depending on affiliation. Evil acts are evil acts no matter who does them or for what reason. There were war criminals among all 3 of the dominant ethnic groups. Folks such as Ratco Mladic and Slobodan Milosevic on the Serb side may be heroes among their group, but I have seen the results of some of what they did and a label of war criminal is the nicest thing I can say about those two. Most folks who served in the 90's in Bosnia and Kosovo should not have to be reminded of places like Srebrenica, Brcko, etc. Anyone else can google it. I don't excuse the Bosniacs or Croatians who both did somewhat similar nasties of their own. All three groups need to do what their cultures forbid: To get on with their lives and let the past go into history books as lessons learned. To fail to do this condemns their children and grandchildren to further tragedy and perpetuating generational hatred stemming from before they were born... in cases centuries before they were born. At some point leaders must stand up and state: THIS STOPS WITH ME!
