Random thought, but I wonder if the decades long war on terror, has forced everyone into thinking that capital ships and blue water navies are obsolete? Kinda irresponsible considering the Chinese threat...

Interesting that they went diesel/turbine for propulsion. Sounds like there quite a few problems, pretty sad for what the RN used to be...

Can you imagine this today?

By war's end in 1945, the United States Navy had added nearly 1,200 major combatant ships, including twenty-seven aircraft carriers and eight "fast" battleships, and ten prewar "old" battleships totaling over 70% of the world's total numbers and total tonnage of naval vessels of 1,000 tons or greater.
