Mounting evidence points to a connection between dementia and common herpes virus infections, particularly herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1), which causes cold sores, and varicella zoster virus (VZV), the cause of chickenpox and shingles. Multiple studies have shown that individuals with a history of these infections face a higher risk for dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease (AD). What was once a fringe hypothesis has gained traction, as a growing body of research points to these viruses as major factors in Alzheimer’s and other dementias.

Interesting. I would like to know exactly why they didn’t explain why they didn’t give credence to a military study which found no cause and effect with herpes and Alzheimer’s. Maybe it’s because the military isn’t beholding to the pharmaceutical companies that fund Medscape.

I was either blind or naive before COVID to understand just how much money goes into literature with designed outcomes. I wonder how many fewer people would be on SSRI if we did more vitamin D levels but big pharma does not make money on vitamin D supplements.
