To be 18, paid, and no debt, because we lived in the barracks when were were at home... Life was good. Port calls were the cherry on top. I had two Med floats in 1977. Italy was so cheap to visit. Lots of fun.

I liked the article and though the closing brings a valid point it is always the leadership, regardless what branch, that bears the brunt of issuing orders and seeing they are carried out. What matters is how they handle it and what steps they take to maintain good morale, without interfering with the overall mission.
