Which is why I vote, too many people have sacrificed their lives in order to give us the right to vote. And I say to those that says "their vote doesn't count". If your vote doesn't count why does a certain party continue to voter suppress

As currently living in Alabama, I am well aware with the voter ID laws in place. It is harder to buy cough medicine in this state than it is to vote. And that is a fact.

Anderson Cooper should focus more on voter fraud. But then Democrats would lose much of their base if they did any real focus on an actual issue.

SPC Casey Ashfield - If you voted without showing an approved photo id, then that is being done against alabama law. Just because you are not being asked for id, doesn't mean others are not. If it's not being evenly enforced, that's even more worrying.

Now there is a free voter id card available if you first get law enforcement to sign a form saying you don't have a valid id, then go to one of the specified locations. Is it possible, certainly. If it wasn't the law would easily be shot down. But that's not the point. The point that the person was talking about it was to make it a PITA for certain segments of society to vote. The people who have trouble with this tend to be the working poor who have difficulty getting around to jump through the hoops they need to jump through to get an id who's only purpose is to exercise their right to vote. Many of them will likely just give up, and that's kind of the point of it all.

SPC Casey Ashfield - Also, to be fair, my state of CT has similar laws, so I'm not picking on Alabama.

SPC Kevin Ford - There are no hoops. The voter ID is free. There are even mobile offices that go around the counties that get people registered. The only reason why I have never been asked to show ID is because I am already on the roster in my town as a registered voter. In Alabama you cannot throw a rock in any direction without hitting at least 2 churches, and they often do shuttles to get anyone who hasn't been registered to vote into the polls. Short of mailing a voter ID, the local governments make a very reasonable effort to get everyone registered and voted.

I have ZERO issue with voter ID laws. We need ID to do damn near everything else in our republic. But having an ID to vote is somehow racist? Complete and utter BS.

SPC Casey Ashfield I come from a small farming town too. However if you have never been asked for ID at the polls than your election committee is doing so contrary to state law, full stop. That's what I mean by selective enforcement. I always am asked and everyone there knows who I am.

So here's the thing, I'm not against voter id laws. But there is a balance between keeping those who are not legally able to vote and making sure those who have a legal right to vote, can vote. We had a whole revolution over that particular issue.

So how are they suppressing the vote?

MSG Jay Jackson The easy answer is this. You make voting contingent on something a certain portion of the population doesn't have and then make it difficult for people in those areas to get that thing.

The eighteenth amendment mentions the citizens right to vote. How does a pool worker determine you are a citizen. Also in Alabama you can get a photo ID for free at Drivers Liscense stations.
