My Opinion: This is a result of the great number of Foster "Parents" that do it only for the money, and don't want to deal with the children, being children, so they drug them to the point of vegging in the couch. A better study would be to follow up on what the children are doing after leaving Foster care and finding the homes that continuously turn out problem children, which don't, and find out why.

Psychotropic meds are not indicated for use in teenagers. Studies have not established their safety. in cases where a psychotic condition is severe in a teen, and it can happen, a psychiatrist may prescribe an anti-psychotic feeling that the possible treatment benefit is seriously needed and worth the risk. That being said, dosing and follow up needs to be very carefully executed. I cannot imagine how so many have been prescribed these medicines in Missouri's Foster Care system.....We need oversight for sure!
