It's not that the motto is "not politically correct" today; it's just that it isn't correct today, in that it doesn't accurately reflect the VAs scope today or the makeup of the military today. So there is no good reason not to update it. As to the costs, I think the author greatly overstates the issue. The content of websites is updated frequently; it wouldn't be a special cost to change a couple of extra words the next time a webpage is updated. Likewise things like pamphlets and letterhead. I don't recall seeing that motto on anything I've received from the VA anyway. You could update those as reprints are made, the same way they introduce new designs on currency. So I think this author was really stretching to make her point. Her premise that the VA would have to choose between changing the motto or some vital service is a false choice, IMO.

The author has a point and it seems that the IAVA is focusing on the wrong thing.
