It makes sense... we do similar ops (not the bullying, more the defense-in-depth) with our own coasties.
In spite of the ruling by the International Courts in the Philippines’ favor, there is other precedent.
As i’ve mentioned previously (somewhere or other, at some time or other) he who plants the last flag AND DEFENDS IT wins.
Witness the early disputes between Argentina & Great Britain over the Malvinas/Falklands. They changed hands several times over a century or so simply because one group from one country would leave to replaced by another group from the other country.
England planted the last group, and successfully defended it...
China is doing the same
