While I might agree that it isn't DIRECTLY vital to US interests, it is absolutely vital INDIRECTLY to our interests.
The US has shared interests with Europe about stopping the expansion of Russia through direct physical conflict and on a larger scale, we can't allow countries to devolve back into the "overt might makes right" in dealing with their neighbors (we're never going to get away from 'might gives a special type of influence').

Luckily, not all Republican leaders view the conflict as do the former president and DeSantis. In realpolitik terms, breaking the back of Russia, which seeks at every opportunity to undermine US influence, at the cost of zero American lives is a net positive for the globe. I forgot to mention that in 2014 and 2015, then-Congressman DeSantis repeatedly asked that President Obama send offensive and defensive weapons to Ukraine after Russia illegally annexed Crimea. At one point, in an interview with a conservative talk radio host in June 2015, he said, "We in the Congress have been urging the president, I’ve been, to provide arms to Ukraine. They want to fight their good fight. They’re not asking us to fight it for them. And the president has steadfastly refused. And I think that that’s a mistake." I find that very interesting. A little hypocrisy perhaps? COL Randall C. PO1 William "Chip" Nagel

Agreed but they are asking the USA and NATO to fight with them, we have just refused because we are concerned that would start a world war

Agree - keep up the cooperation and support, but having our troops involved at this point? Non-starter.

To the best of my knowledge they have not asked for troops, rather more advanced weaponry. Agree that our troops on the ground is a non starter

SPC Robert Coventry - Zelenskyy and other commanders in Ukraine are not requesting for the US and NATO to fight on the ground with Ukraine. In responding to a hypothetical about Russia overtaking Ukraine and what next, Zelenskyy talked how Russia will not stop at Ukraine and will then go onto other countries, including NATO countries. Once that occurs, then US soldiers will be fighting on the ground as we are part of NATO. Zelenskyy has only requested military equipment, shells, etc. and humanitarian aid from the US and NATO.

Zelenskyy didn’t say US troops needed to fight in Ukraine
CLAIM: A video clip shows Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy saying that Americans will have to send their “sons and daughters” to the war in Ukraine. AP’S ASSESSMENT: Missing context.
