Part of the fun when I go to MacDill AFB is figuring out what country troops are from by looking at their camo uniforms. Too many using the same pattern is going to take away all my entertainment :-)

I'm sure there will still be those subtle differences.

I remember reading an article back in the day of why the Army didn’t choose the MARPAT uniform. Their excuse for creating their own pattern instead of using MARPAT was that the USMC uniform contained black in its color spectrum. According to the article, the color black does not occur naturally in nature. In other words it’s a man made color. So the Army has to create its own pattern that did not contain black.

I know it sounds crazy, but that’s what I read.

Thank you, for your recollection. I think it is crazy that we have to get rid of the desert tan Boot and go for a darker Hue coyote brown boots. Someone's making money on this one!

SMSgt Thor Merich What I have read is that the USMC has something like or has a trade mark on MARPAT and wouldn't let the Army use it.

Sometimes you've gotta realize the Saving on uniforms you had as a Soldier vs Navy, Marines and even Air Force just gets spent buying new "field" uniforms. Since the 1980s the Army went thru two shades of the green dress uniform, khakis then blues with suspended and with belt loops on the dress uniform side. Possibly pinks and greens again still in development. Now on the field side fatigues; cotton and permanent press, jungle fatigues; slanted pockets straight pockets, Cami's, woodland BDU; wide collar, regular collar, light weight, with button flaps on waist and then back off, don't forget Urban BDU like Berlin BDE, dessert "chocolate chip" then DCU (wide collar, regular collar), ACU; regular and fire retardant, and now multi cam. That's a helluva lot of uniforms over just a 30 year time frame. Definitely folks getting rich off of it all!

Yes, sir, and going to the Coyote Boots is part of the ongoing military industrial complex. That pisses me off the most! Cuz I have perfectly good boots I have probably 500 to $600 worth of boots that I will have to get rid of to buy a piece of junk coyote brown boots that started $140 and go up. I wish president Trump or secretary Mattis would change that rule and let us keep our tan boot.
