In a San Francisco Chronicle opinion piece published Monday, California Attorney General Xavier Becerra and California Secretary of State Alex Padilla wrote that the inclusion of a citizenship question would be "illegal" and "an extraordinary attempt by the Trump administration to hijack the 2020 census for political purposes."

"California, with its large immigrant communities, would be disproportionately harmed by depressed participation in the 2020 census," they wrote. "An undercount would threaten at least one of California’s seats in the House of Representatives (and, by extension, an elector in the electoral college.)"

Of course it's legal to ask. Moreover, it's a necessity. The primary purpose of the census is to apportion representation and spending. Non-citizens are not represented in our government. Spending is not driven in their interests. To count non-citizens is to pervert the purpose of the census, regardless of whether they are legally here or not. Naturally, California objects. It is their intention to pervert America's Constitution and its government.

I would posit that if the question is asked and answered, they ARE represented. Districts are determined by residents and, although not being legal to vote in Federal elections, they can vote in some state and city elections. If the illegals were more educated on our laws, they would want to be counted. It results in more benefits. JMHO

California Officials talk about what is illegal ? harboring Illegal immigrants for one and inflating the population number with people that have no legal right to remain in the country let alone draw benefits that other pay for. Reward California by violating Federal Law ? seems its high time to prosecute these officials ! Counting Immigrants who made a legal entry is one thing and that's fine, those that made illegal entry is quite another.
