Sadly, they do NOT need to keep doing man made changes to most of the crops. They can star using Aquaculture and remove most diseases (from human and animal waste in fields) as well as chemical sprays (from theirs or neighboring crop fields).
I believe, and it is only MY opinion, that a lot of these modifications will have long lasting negative effects on the populace.

The Earth’s population was 1.6 billion in 1900, now the Earth’s population in 2019 is about 7.7 billion.
Your body is warm? Your wife’s body is hot?(?). :). How much heat are the two of you emitting?
Maybe the problem is that too many human bodies are emitting body heat into the atmosphere?
