He didn't mention grenade launchers, missiles, and mortars. In defense we used claymores. We did use satchel charges when I was in with a five second fuse.

The focus was more cover on offensive assault action - so claymore would be out of discussion .... or would it. Could be used to deny exit or flank if you have it..

I mentioned claymore as defensive but they could be used to ambush exit routes as you wisely stated.

It seemed to me, when I was combat engineer, that the infantry could have picked up much of what we did for them (especially in a light infantry division) by perhaps establishing an additional skill identifier and school to teach them explosive breaching TTPs. What we trained with back in the 1990s was pretty straightforward and simple. It would require learning how to do light demo in general (respecting blasting caps, tying demo knots with det cord, etc) and then some specific applications for breaching in complex terrain. Such a program would be to non-sapper soldiers as combat lifesaver is to non-medic soldiers. Now, how well any of this applies on a battlefield with noncombatants present is an additional consideration beyond my insight.

I'm not sure what to think about this door to door stuff. I worry about the innocent. But, if the enemy is going to use them as cover, perhpas destroying the whole city will set the example? The enemy would blend in the population, or move to remote ground as the war unfolds.
We just seem to bleed for everyone. Let everyone else bleed while we take the high ground and give them 72 hours to leave,
I know some operations require taking of enemy persons. I like to see the night raids and night vision actions. It gives us the edge.

LTC Eric Udouj - I'm not sure how my post demonized the enemy. I was writing how to keep our persons from holding hands and singing songs while getting nailed by IED's.
If winning the battle with overwhelming force is not the objective, then please excuse my train of thought Sir.

Your post did not demonize them Mark.... we (America) have a habit of doing that... and justifying the outcome off of it. But we do see much hand holding and singing songs stopping nay an offensive. We create that morale high ground... often based off something... but create it we do.
We used to own the night.. but those days have passed with the other guys getting more and more night vision gear and ability to use drones for night time. We have a keen edge - but not like we used to when the war first started 16 years back.

My posts are just my opinions. They are not meant to challenge your knowledge in tactics, or strategy.
I am not happy with a 16 year war. By harming our people with loss of life and loss of limbs, also suicides and broken families, I am ready to throw the moral high ground out the window. Sir.

Cpl Mark A. Morris - My posts are opinions as well - and please do not interpret my words as an attack on any ideas or opinions offered - unless of course I name the author or group..... otherwise it is a focus at a senior level of strategy or diplomacy when I make a comment. Sorry for the confusion in regards Mark - my bad on that one.
