As for McCain, when transiting the Straits of Maloca our Captain was always on the bridge! Thousands of ship pass thru the straits every day!! It requires that an experienced bridge team and the Captain be on the bridge! We are lacking in training in critical areas!'

I know that so many of my more experienced shipmate were lost because of retention issues the navy wanted to get rid people so badly and now it's biting them in the but.

When the last administration started reducing the size of the military!! Then Navy cut many, many senior petty officers and CPO's never once realizing that they were forcing out a vast amount of experience in all rates in the Navy!! They shut down surface warfare college in Quonset Point RI thinking the officer could get the training in the fleet!! I also wonder with the collisions how much in attention to what was going on around them because they were on their phones!! Technology is great but there are certain places where your undivided attention is needed!!
