15 years ago, my wife work in the oil fields of Fort McMurray she knew of druggies that would make my during the 10 days of work they had then they would live the remainder of the time in a homeless shelter because they would crack up all their money on drugs on their four or five days off. I'm sure this is happening in that oil field area. I hope they do random drug testing because workers are going to die if they don't have random drug testing. I hate drunks and druggies. I have a 22 and 21 year old step daughter that didn't finish school and got high on pot and Other Drugs when they were teenagers. That's why I'm totally against liberalisation of pot in both United States and Canada. Just because it's regulated just for adults, doesn't mean that younger ones can't get high and get their brains fried from it.
If you have a drug or alcohol addiction, call Alcoholics Anonymous or Narcotics Anonymous in your white pages. It should also be available online. Military One Source is also a good referral service. If you feel suicidal or depressed, also feel free to call your Suicide Hotline or Military One Source. My sister used to drink and take painkillers and she hung herself at age 49 because of a bad relationship. I hate drunks and druggies! The real people who suffer after a suicide are the survivors. Only cowards kill themselves!

We have problems everywhere not just un blue collar jobs. We have addicted medical personnel for example

I guess I am of a different opinion. I believe a person should be able to do what they wish. If they wish to die, so be it. If they wish to waste their lives on booze and/or drugs, so be it. It is their choice.

In a vacuum Maybe. But they come back to our house asking for handouts. They call us the middle of the night or they're texting my wife at 2 in the morning. My 21 year old step daughter called me on Father's Day drunk at noon and she had stayed up all night to wish me Father's Day. My sister used to be the same way in some respects, she only called me when she was drunk from a club. Yes, you can do whatever you want but the real victims of the survivors they have to deal with this or the parents who have to deal with adult kids who are 21 and 22 years old but they're dumber than Forrest Gump as far as sobriety is concerned.

However, I think there can be things done to allow the person to do as they wish without depending on family. Clinics for one.
