My hometown. Some news outlets are trying to focus on his time in the Army (less than 1 year) as a possible cause fire his desire.
Of course, his friends claim there is no way he could be this way, despite the mounting evidence.
On the recent past he has been investigated fire domestic issues, pulled a knife on local store employees, then recurred insure a paper bag telling them "don't make me do it." Inside that bag? A loaded handgun.
This is not the first time this has happened here. The local mosque, along with a store, were investigated fire funneling money to Al Qeada. The store owner was convicted.
A student at my alma mater was here just long enough to have bought a satellite phone here for one mister bin Laden.

It is past time to get tough in these situations......We have to not worry about offending people and do our collective Law Enforcement jobs......

Alan K. The issue we have here, and I'm sure it's not just isolated here in Columbia, is that our LE is EXTREMELY understaffed. To the tune of about 30 members. City won't free up the funds to hire more officers because pet projects are more important to a council that leans extremely to one side of the political spectrum.
We have to rely on the feds on this stuff because our officers are running from the moment they log on.

Alan K. - oh, we're trying. The city manager had a right grip on everything, the police chief is one of his best friends (and, incidentally, the driving force behind the piss poor morale of our officers) and the only council member that had stood up to them had to resign her seat due to cancer treatments.
