Congress to buy 3 more LCS than the Navy needs, but gut funding for sensors that make them...

Is the point of these oddly-shaped surface vessels to increase the chances of avoiding an impact by an incoming projectile such as an anti-ship missile, or to actually avoid detection altogether? (I'm guessing stealth surface vessels - I know the Zumwalt ships are supposed to be stealthy, at least. I'm assuming these LCS ships as well.) It seems to me that avoiding detection on the surface, especially anywhere with appreciable commercial traffic, would be difficult to achieve with a surface vessel regardless of design.
