By far the most controversial measure discussed by GOP leaders and activists in the week before the 2016 Republican National Convention is the "conscience clause."
In large part, the work of Colorado delegate Kendal Unruh, the "clause" is a change in party rules that would unbind delegates from commitments made to any presidential candidates during the nomination process or required by state law.
Most delegates who spoke to Newsmax anticipated that a majority of the 112-member Rules Committee would vote down the "conscience clause."
However, betting is strong that at least one-fourth of the committee — 28 Members — will vote for the measure, thus requiring the full convention to debate and vote on it next week.
"I can state unequivocally we have the 28 votes," Unruh told Newsmax Wednesday.
Such a late and dynamic change in GOP rules would be, supporters told Newsmax, the best — and last chances — of the 1, 237 delegates arriving in Cleveland Monday to stop Donald Trump and thus permit the convention to nominate someone else for President.

I think the parties (both of them) need to do one of two things. !. honor the vote of the people in a primary or 2. Quit faking it and do not have primaries.

I'm not a fan of popular vote to select candidates (only because We the People have done such a poor job of it). However, once the people have voted, it's hard to justify dismissing their choice as a matter of conscience. I haven't been happy over the years reminding myself that we have the govt that we deserve. The only thing I can think of that is worse, is not having the govt we deserve and if the parties decide to ignore our vote, that's precisely what we'll get.
