Military may not pay competitively, but the experience is invaluable. You can get through one enlistment term the same kind of experience that it may take 10 to 15 years to get in the civilian sector. Plus, the military has some expensive toys you probably don't get to play with outside.

SSgt Ryan Sylvester you won't have to convince anyone here on RP of that, we all signed on the dotted line at some point. It is convincing the guy eating funyons and drinking mountain dew on the couch while hacking away to sign on the dotted line.

I will have to disagree with the experience for cyber. Unless they place them in an actual analyst or engineer job where hey have hands on they are marines first. Most of the time will be dedicated to field and marine duties that is the problem with the Army as well.

Make them civilian GS workers then. No one will accept them as Marines nor should they be. There was a small cadre of Marines that went to Korea as part of the 1st Provisional Marine Division that get a pass for service rendered in Korea but these were Marines signed up but had not left for boot camp yet.

Cpl Jeff N. I agree with you, or as I said above create a new branch specifically dedicated to this type of endeavor.

The title of Marine is earned not given. To not make anyone wearing the uniform a Marine without going through Basic is wrong...for any service. If you want Cyber Warriors without making them attend a basic training then make them civilians and hire them on that way.

Lt Col Scott Shuttleworth I agree with you, I would add this though. IF you want a cyber warrior military service, then create a sixth branch of the armed forces. Design the training around the threat this branch will deal with. Navy basic training is specific to naval service. Army training is specific to the needs of the Army. Marine Training specific to the Marine Corps. Each branch has basic training designed to have a service member in their branch trained to a specific basic level. So it would make sense to have Cyber warriors attend a specific boot camp for their battle field. One size does not fit all. One uniform does not fit all.

PO3 Steven Sherrill - I actually really like the idea of a 6th service and never really thought about it.
