As I recall, not to terribly long ago, Turkey shot down a Russian warplane. Other than mouthing off the Russians did what....? The Russians do not want a war any more than we do. But the bully will keep taking our lunch money as long as we keep handing it over with no consequences. We don't even have to get in a shooting war. Punish Putin hard economically with sanctions that are completely out of proportion to his provocation and he will get the message - we are "bat crap crazy' and pissed off.

The Dr. Spock school of diplomacy, where everyone gets a participation trophy and no one gets a swift kick to their self esteem favors the bully.

I doubt there would be any need to. Russian and American aircraft have been sharing that airspace for a while now.

Roger that! but the issues of concern deals with the groups the US backs vs the Syrian/Russian alliance. Russians will and have bombed them, there could be a flash point.
