Many of us have followed this case... and the title is incorrect. The Marine was never courtmartialed for expressing faith, she was courtmartialed for several cases of disobeying orders and not be on duty when she was supposed to. When I reviewed her case, it was clear to me that this marine always had issues with following orders and conforming to a military lifestyle, despite her rank.

PFC Al Sethre - Bad conduct discharge makes things difficult. At that point it becomes better to tell a perspective employer that one did not serve.

You hit the nail on the head. Her case was less about religion as it was her insubordination and disregard for regulations and good order. Religion is being used as a means to an end. It's always that 5% that take up 95% of your time.

Thanks for the info. I wasn't aware of her confrontation with her superior. Good to know that my original opinion of the Marines remains positive. Some people have problems with authority and try to make it a religious persecution problem.

She represented herself at the Court Martial? Wow. That's some serious stupid right there.

After the 4th or 5th "stupid decision" you can't see the forest for the trees.

Indeed stupid. I wish i could witness it though - because the evidence and the testimonies are solid.

I don't think that is the real issue; the issue is Sterling was court-martialed for various offenses relating to separate incidents -- including disrespecting a superior officer, disobeying lawful orders and failing to report to an assigned duty. I believe she was acting out, rebelled and got charged. As a govt civilian you are allowed to have small items/phrases in your work space but it looks like Sterling was more about "In your face" with it.
