Thanks TSgt Joe C. for reminding us that on May 7, 1998 German automobile company Daimler-Benz–maker of the world-famous luxury car brand Mercedes-Benz merged with the United States-based Chrysler Corporation at a cost of $36 billion.

I never was a fan of auto bail-out of GM and Chrysler and there fore will not but them. Maybe Ford got some kind of sweet deal but not certain. And the car buy back was a disaster, I understand final cost was real high. A lot of the cars were better than some on the road. I drive a US made foreign car and truck. Both made in the US. But after my AF retirement I worked for a foreign company. There is a lot of foreign company's in the US. No such thing as "buy american". Just try and build a house out of American material.

TSgt Joe C. thanks for the history of On this day in 1998, the German automobile company Daimler-Benz–maker of the world-famous luxury car brand Mercedes-Benz–announces a $36 billion merger with the United States-based Chrysler Corporation.

The purchase of Chrysler, America’s third-largest car company, by the Stuttgart-based Daimler-Benz marked the biggest acquisition by a foreign buyer of any U.S. company in history.
