Having a Navy pilot and Air Force Pilot that are now legislators getting in the weeds of how SWO's should run their ships is an idiotic idea. I don't call a plumber to tell me how to fix my computer. If these 2 really wanted to solve the problem they would have passed a budget sometime in the last 8 years. Forcing the military to run off Continuing Resolutions for so long was the root cause of training shortfalls all across the military.

One was the McCain was just an unfortunate combination of events, one of which is some egg heads that never served on a ship sucking off the tax roles and making something that work well "better". Those engineers should go back to making mouse traps.

Does the Navy really need Legislation to correct and to reform the ills of the last 10 years or more? I doubt they need legislation, unless it comes with more funding.

As an add to my comment above; PO1 William "Chip" Nagel LT Brad McInnis LCDR (Join to see) I find it ironic that the legislature was a big part of the problem due to Years of CR's and budget cuts and reductions of force, and the list goes on and on. But I did not see any comment in the article that the legislators took any responsibility for the short comings of the Navy. This so called legislation should have addressed the issue that they (the Legislature) were part of the problem and the legislation included taking corrective action for it's roll in causing some of issues the Navy was caused to suffer!

CWO3 Dennis M. - Well of course putting a politician in charge of ships maintenance is the answer.
