Larry Clinton and His Orchestra with Bea Wain - Deep Purple (1939)
Charted at #1 in 1939. Also #2 for Jimmy Dorsey and His Orchestra, #9 for Guy Lombardo and His Royal Canadians, #14 for Bing Crosby, #17 for Artie Shaw and H...
Deep Purple was one of my favorite songs of the early sixties, CPL Dave Hoover! Nino Tempo and April Stevens are actually Antonino and Carol Vincinette LoTempio, a brother and sister singing act from Niagara Falls, New York!
I had my parents listen to the song when it cam out and they laughed at me. It was originally a hit in 1939 and had been around forever! This song is a lot older than most of us thought! Here's a recording of one of the most popular of the early versions!
Frankly, I like Nino's and April's version the best!

Interesting music history, and I agree, I like their version best brother LTC Stephen C.
