It also would provide emergency funding for U.S. areas hit by hurricanes, floods and other natural disasters.
The package would include an extension of the Violence Against Women Act.”
Sounds like a great deal except Dems and immigration reform activists have been asking for a long term solution for almost ten years. So as part of negotiations, they should counter with “we agree with everything except we want a permanent DACA immigration plan. No more games with the Dreamers that have been doing what has been asked of them.”
That’s fair.

I'm of the opinion that the Dems should put forth a bill that does pretty much everything they want, and not just around the dreamers and immigration. Fixins to Obama Care, immigration reforms, Mueller protection, reforms to higher education, etc, etc. See how much he (and the Republicans) really want that wall.

SPC Kevin Ford - Nobody in this country to my knowledge has ever died due to lack of pay. We have had people die due to people crossing the border illegally, just because the latter are blended into larger crime stats does not give the Democrats a pass here. They are in effect saying to the public they do not care about the crime statistic, they do not care what people on the ground in the Border Patrol say, they just hate Trump too much to grant what is needed to secure the border. Where does that stop? If we are attacked by a foriegn power will the Democrats also deny funding for an adequate defense?

SPC Erich Guenther The only thing Trump wants is a bill that has in writing “$B for a wall” so he has written proof to show his dwindling base he got his wall. There’s a reason Dems keep using the term “border security” and not wall in every bill. This is all about semantics. Dems offered $25B foe border security last year which included repairing existing barriers.
I enjoy your exaggeration of facts. His choice was steel slats not a concrete wall and you think they can’t breach a wall or steel slats while digging a tunnel? It’s called technology, resources and lots of money with the professional smugglers. Just ask El Chapo; his drugs didn’t walk across the desert. This game between Trump, GOP, and Dems have made our country officially led by selfish fools on all sides.

MAJ James Woods - Don't blame me because you misread news stories, my facts are correct. The steel slats idea was from the Democratic Party it was not Trumps idea. Trump wanted concrete, so you mistated that as well. At any rate the entire Trump proposal changed prior to the government shutdown at the behest of his advisors and key Republicans. At least 30 days if not more prior to the shutdown Trump scaled back $30 billion to $5.6 Billion for the wall and wall improvements. Which the Democrats call barrier and barrier improvements. Same damn thing on both sides except the Democrats want to fool the public into thinking it is a different proposal........when it is almost 80% of what is in the Democratic Party proposal. In regards to El Chappo and drug smugglers most of their drugs come through the legal checkpoints in semi-trailers........barrier or wall has little to do with them. They already have a spot inspection scheme at the border and track truck shipments after they cross the border which at times the cartels are able to elude. The barrier system is more to keep out the foot immigation folks who usually do not tunnel. The tunnel they dug in Arizona recently was under an older portion of the barrier system via sandy soil that did not have the deep foundation (so they did not have to dig much) to block them. When El Chappo digs it is usually in an urban area along the border within a house South of the border because it makes it difficult to detect. I seriously doubt El Chappo pays foot immigrants to smuggle drugs and I doubt he uses the all desert routes much because both take too much time and present too much risk. All of this talk about El Chappo is tangental and beside the point. The border barrier system is not intended to halt all sources of cross border crime but is intended to reduce illegal border crossings so that we do not have millions of people streaming across an open border. El Chappo's activities are not even a drop in the bucket and he doesn't even rely on land border crossings 100% of the time either he uses the sea and boats, chartered planes, ultralights etc. He is not necessarily the target audience of the barrier or border system. They have other means to catch him further in the interior.
What is really interesting in all this is the Democrats never counter offered on the parts they previously agreed to like the increase in administrative judges to speed asylum cases for example. Or the money that was to be spent on humanitarian shelters and holding areas. That part of Trumps proposal was ignored and the Democrats rejected the ENTIRE proposal outright........so what does that tell you about compromise?
