Lt Col Charlie Brown I don't belong to the union because I don't think they do a damn thing for most teachers or students. They are there for the buck and to save the jobs of poor performing teachers in my opinion. Countrywide scores may be down but, in my district, we have made gains, minimal, but nevertheless gains in mathematics. At least we didn't go backwards in scores although we lost our first place standing in the state and are now in second place out of all districts in Tennessee. We lost out by 0.2 points over the now highest scoring district. I say screw the union, I don't need them and their politics. OK, off my rant before I make this into a book.

Lt Col Charlie Brown - We are "Like" thinkers Colonel. Screw the unions. I take care of myself and my record of performance in the classroom speaks for itself. If the school doesn't think I am doing a good enough job they can tell me to leave. However, (bragging a bit) on my annual unannounced observations on a scale of 1 to 5, with 1 being the lowest and 5 being the highest, I have consistently been a 5 for many years.

Lt Col Charlie Brown Cpl Vic Burk Taxidermy Vic is on the mark. The discussion of teachers unions and unions in general, quickly devolves into a book. Many, if not most, rank n file would opt out but for closed shop states and NLRA backed union pressure. That is evidenced by my seven of seven successful union avoidance campaigns (if Vic gets a 5, I'm claiming similar :-)) :-)) It's time we shook the wrinkles out of the sheets and made closed shops illegal. We don't have to repeal the NLRA, but it certainly needs to be brought in line with today's workforce demands. Oh, and my pet peeve -- NO PUBLIC SECTOR UNIONS!! CWO4 Terrence Clark - And you are on the mark also. We don't need unions in the public sector in my opinion.
