Does anyone else actually read this stuff? What passes for "journalism" these days is blatant political/ideological propaganda. The bias isn't even disguised anymore. Allow me to present just one example.
"Unlike the simmering fights in Congress over healthcare and taxes, in which Republicans are pursuing purely partisan legislation, major spending bills generally need bipartisan support for passage, lending some optimism that the negotiations will end next week without a federal shutdown."
The Affordable Care Act, aka "Obamacare", was the single most partisan bill passed in Congress in recent memory. It was the sole product of a Congress controlled in both chambers by the Democrats. It passed in the House without a single Republican vote. Nor could the GOP be convinced to support it in the Senate and, lacking sufficient votes there, Harry Reid "passed" it using a bit of legislative legerdemain (give the Devil his due, Harry knows how to manipulate legislative processes). Sadly, it not only failed to fix the problems it was purported to address, it exacerbated them. It also put healthcare as well as healthcare insurance at risk and the longer it stands, the worse the damage. The Republicans were supposed to rescind it as soon as they gained control of the government but are stalling. They too have fallen into the trap of trying to fix everything at once in one grandiose omnibus bill. (Obviously, the GOP is just as dumb as the Dems, maybe dumber since they had the mistakes of the Dems to show them the error of that way) Legislation should proceed incrementally, in baby steps, so that any misstep can be corrected before it does as much damage as the ACA.
But no, these "reporters" characterize the Republicans as "pursuing purely partisan legislation". Folks, healthcare is not a partisan issue. It's a very important issue, one in need of immediate attention. Each day we fall further into an abyss from which it may become impossible to extricate ourselves. God help us if we throw up our hands and adopt a single payer system like Canada and most of Europe. Yes, I know there are those who will claim that it is such a wonderful system. Sadly, they don't read the real reports of waiting lines, rationed healthcare, and sending patients home with pain killers after being told that they are not economically worthy of being saved.

"Government shutdown" is another Defeatocrat-inspired myth. The people that **need** to be at work will be there. However, tens of thousands of unnecessary union-protected leeches will get a few days off without pay.
