While Medicare looks to be covering the cost of the transplant, the time delay in getting approval for a "living donor" kidney transplant in the Houston VA Facility would mean the affect veteran might be placing his life at risk by waiting. Even if he went to another facility that does this type of transplant, the family could not afford to travel to the location nor have living expenses. The VA needs to have a facility similar to the Ronald McDonald's Houses where family's can concentrate on the ill family member and not the cost burden. I think we have a new cause we need to support. Semper Fi

There is a group that has a place similar to Ronald McDonald House, its called FISHER HOUSE not sure how many VA facilities they are located near. You can do a search on the internet for FISHER HOUSE. Gainesville, FL VA is getting one with in the this year or the next.

This is an outrage. The source of the donor is irrelevant. Getting media attention in this time of elections is his best bet to get the surgery approved...

As I stated on another thread, vets eligible for full coverage living more than 40 miles from a MAJOR VA medcen (not a community clinic) should be given Medicare Part C. That would eliminate all the Choice program foibles. The reality is that almost no providers will accept Choice because it is such a bad program...

You are so right LCDR Rabbah Rona Matlow now that the choice card got put in to place the doctors locally do not want to get involved and that allowed the va to take away our senior travels so now we can not get drivers anymore and some of us can not drive that far.

In a Regis Philbman(Sp?) voice: Give the man the damn kidney, already!!!

I figure anyone willing to help a Vet should be allowed to help.
