The Disneyland execs once played with the idea of building a new theme park in Long Beach adjacent to the Queen Mary. The ship would then serve the same purpose as the hotel at Disneyland. As a standalone attraction, it simply didn't fit the same market as "family entertainment", the market in which Disney enterprises dominate. When the execs abandoned the theme park proposed for Long Beach in favor of expanding the existing theme park in Anaheim with Disney's California Adventure, the Queen Mary became superfluous.

My Wife and I love this ship. I am sure many here, who are not from California, would go visit the USS Iowa and sleep at the HMS Queen Mary.

Thanks fro reminding us LTC (Join to see) about the beached Ocean Liner the Queen Mary which is docked in Long Beach. A pretty sad stopping point for a once-mighty Cruise Ship.

Like stepping into a time capsule. We spent a half day touring the ship and enjoyed a dinner and show on board. Many people staying in original state rooms. The ship I believe is in danger of deteriorating as it does not get the maintenance it needs and was visibly going down hill at the time of our visit in 1990. Maybe additional funding has been raised. It was fascinating to see the bridge which did not have nearly the navigation aids present which we are or were used to seeing even in our day (1975). It is amazing how they could navigate the old fashioned way. If you are even in the area make it a special point to visit this bit of history before it goes away.
