Yes, they can say whatever they choose and often their "statistical facts" are skewed towards a given outcome sought by researchers. That is my distrust. I can and do conclude that President Obama and his less than genuine approach towards law enforcement has contributed to the less than respectful way some have choose to interact with officers. I did work in both civilian and military law enforcement for more than 40 years as an active officer. My experiences were not what this report indicates. The erosion as much as this story would like to paint things as attributable to the lack of police interactions in their community, is as much if not more attributable to some communities adopting a confrontational approach to all law enforcement. My personal experiences attest to such changes that I saw on a daily basis in my and my contemporaries interactions with the public. And to counter claims that it was accounted for because of my ethnicity (Caucasian) I will add that my work partners included daily all groups; Hispanic, African-American and both gay male and female.
In fact, I just finished reading a story respective of this type of sentiment relative to law enforcement as a whole. It was a "study" followed by the "speech" given by some "professor" who holds to the mistaken belief that we should abolish all law enforcement agencies. His solution is one that is comical at best and at worst it would be a harbinger of the disintegration of society that we like to function in today. His solution is to have neighbors, friends and family be the "authority" whereby rules and laws would be enforced and/or adhered to. Significant problem with the premise this "educated" person has put forth. We already have this system present in our society and as we know with certainty, it has been an abysmal failure in many if not all of our culture.
The other significant failing of such a system would actually be one we have seen since recorded history began its records keeping. The system is what some refer to as "might makes right." Anyone making even a cursory examination of history would find historical records rife with examples of how human society when left to its own devices to control itself fails miserably at this task. One family or family member wants more of something that another has stimulates the inherent desire to take it from the other. If want examples on a larger scale just ask the Native American culture for their views of how losing by being less powerful works. I am neither an expert or one who clings to some jaded notion that humanity will make the correct choices when such issues surface. I will with absolute certainty tell such "self-proclaimed experts" as this professor that he is a fool and lacks both real understanding and education with respect to that which he claims to grasp.

Just so some don't come to the conclusion that this story is made up, here is the post:

Giffords Law Center could publish a report saying the sky is blue and I would go outside to check. They are completely untrustworthy.
