Amen SFC William Farrell. It is long past due as far as I am concerned. Hopefully this new DoD Policy will not only authorize the use of firearms but the end result will be no recruiters or other stateside service members being fired at without the ability to respond it kind.

I believe this is primarily for areas like recruiting stations, not military bases. Every military base already has armed security.
"b. Arming DoD personnel other than law enforcement and security personnel will be considered for locations where law enforcement or security personnel are not located on site or in a reasonable proximity."

The article says for bases, which would indicate more than recruiting stations. As far as armed security already present, please reference how well that worked at Ft. Hood.

It will still be up to the individual Commanding Officers, according to the instruction. Limitations are also placed on the individuals ability to carry and be time limited with ability to renew if necessary. There's much more, but I dont have the instruction in front of me. It's actually a DoD Directive.
