It's not just dogs, cats, and horses.
I have some half-tame squirrels in my back yard. I tossed a peanut to one who was up on his haunches, begging. It fell about two feet to his right. The "dumb" animal turned to his left, sniffed around apparently searching for that peanut in the wrong place. Then he stood up again looking up at me, like he couldn't find that peanut. So I tossed him another one that landed right in front of him. That "dumb" squirrel went directly over to pick up the first peanut that I had thrown to him, then came back to stuff the second one ,that he conned my out of, in his mouth as well. He knew exactly where that first peanut was right from the start.
