Beinf neither a Trump or Clinton voter I can say this without much in the way of politics clouding it. The issue with "manufacturing" jobs and other skilled employment falls directly on the overbearing and overreaching government regulation & taxes and increasingly silly demands of unions. We are losing more and more jobs to that than ANY OTHER thing out there. Manufacturers (large and small, corporate and "mom & pop", etc) cite these reasons for going out of business or for moving business outside of American borders. We have to find a "happy medium" between regulation and "fairness" and the REALITIES of conducting business in the United States.
As an example I will cite my own small business that I had. It was a PART TIME shop open for appointments and walk in's 5-7 days a week depending on the season. My licensing ALONE (Federal, State and Local) before I even opened my doors cost me nearly $6K...and that was an ANNUAL cost that went up by a further $2500 per year (federal) licensing fee the last year I was open for business. I had to insure the premises for liability at a minimum ($600 per year). I was the ONLY employee HOWEVER because I was incorporated to protect my private assets and my wife was a corporate partner I had to PAY us and treat us both as employees (which required that we had to jump through all of the local, state and federal employment hoops...such as Workers Comp insurance and federal/state minimum wage standards...if I didn't then I could be fined for not paying myself enough. HA! I didn't have the issues with employees, etc. but I WAS a union employee for 15 years and enjoyed the fruits of that. I didn't always agree with everything they did in our name and I bore witness to the "company's" (the USPS) response to every "raise" and "benefit" we got...it was certainly a double edged sword. The first "contract discussion" I ever went through cost me a FULL TIME position for almost five years while both the USPS and the union big wigs got rich, fat and happy. I said all that just to say this. In four years I went from being able to turn a profit as a small business to having to shut my doors due to all of the local, state and federal stumblingblocks placed in my path. While everyone gripes about all the people at the top getting rich and greedy, they don't do ANYTHING to help out at all. They vote in more of the "status quo" politicians who promise the world but only end up taking more and more of what us "regular joe's" make to give to those who don't have because the government's have regulated their livelihoods out of existence. It's a big "circle jerk" and none of today's "politicians" are ever going to fix it. Our government and our "system" is eventually goino to have to be gutted in favor of what is TRULY COMMON SENSE to those of us who have run/owned/worked in business. We can be FAIR to everyone (government included), but it will take a businessman LIKE a Donald Trump (I don't think Trump is the solution at all) who isn't a career politician to start the ball rolling. THEN we have to have TERM LIMITS to stop politics from becoming a "business" itself....no more lifetime federal retirement/benefits for politicians, no more cushy lobbying jobs or "advisory" jobs given to these men and women as "compensation" by adoring corporation, law firms, etc. You come to D.C., you serve two terms as senator or 4 terms as a representative, you get paid enough to cover your expenses while there and you live in decent government housing with healthcare provided by the VA or Army/Navy Hospital...when your term expires you go back home and go back to whatever it was you did before. You're not royalty, you're not special, you're a PUBLIC SERVANT and will act & be treated accordingly.
This is how we start changing things. When you are in a RESULTS ORIENTED position you either GET RESULTS or you get booted. Either way, you don't stay long enough to amass power and be corrupted....that is the problem now and the reason why this nation is in the shape it is in.

As usual the NYT is out of touch. We don't want to shake Washington DC up. We want to burn that f*cker down!
