Drafting Women Into Combat Doesn't Enhance Equality. It Courts Disaster. | The Stream

Women's combat exemption was indeed the big circumstance exempting women from Selective Service, but it is not the only reason by far. Congress could justifiably decide its not worth the bureaucratic nightmare in a large scale emergency to cull through thousands to find one minimally qualified for the infantry but that still has many more risks & higher rates of injury which will result in little to no ROI and more casualties & turnover. Some have taken the occasion to call for an end to the draft altogether, and that question will be deliberated on in the review of both the draft & whether women should register that's included in the House language for FY17NDAA.
