Can’t speak for MO — Lived/worked along the San Andreas for years and experienced many a *shake.* Maintained an earthquake insurance policy on our home until the day we move and title transferred.

(Safety) Sidebar: All of the semiconductor facilities I worked in were required to have *seismic shutdown* of their toxic gases (TGO link). In order to “prove” it worked annual testing (which was witnessed by City and or County HazMat personnel) typically included using a sledge hammer (or similar) to simulate an event and trigger the device.

They have a fantastic small museum in New Madrid focusing on the earthquake, in the shadow of the levee on the river. It is locally run but over the years they have gotten a good collection and have arranged it all very well. It is definitely worth the stop. I bought one of their tee shirts, it says on the back, "It's Our Fault," and below in smaller letters, "New Madrid,Missouri."
