About 10-12 years ago I was out walking my English mastiff down a sandy two-track. On the return trip, along comes a stoner. He warns me to be careful there's a cougar in the woods. [We're in Northern Michigan.] I asked how he knew, he said "look" and pointed at the tracks my Mastiff made on the way out.
I pointed at the tracks from our return and noted that they ended at my dog.
"Wow man! the cougar crawled up your dogs ass."

Not so sure about that. They've been sighted in Washington Co. NC, and we get annual reports here in the Smokies.

The Eastern Cougar in North Carolina
Cougars and an unidentified large black cougar-like cat have been sighted in North East North Carolina as recently and September 2011.
