Capt Daniel Goodman In Truman's memoirs; he spoke of ordering the destruction of Eisenhower's letter to General Marshall in which Eisenhower requested returning CONUS for the purpose of divorcing Mamie thus enabling Ike to marry Summersby.
That made President Truman a real gentleman in my eyes.

I know I'd read the story and I understand your reasoning if you want to see an interesting depiction watch if you haven't the Tom selleck film Ike about d day and you'll see her in two scenes one while the shaef staff was watching a movie and the other when she was driving him to see the airborne troops before the drop the film did have some errors like the first name of genl Spaatz though was an interesting depiction as I'd said. I think I'd also seen a film wherein FDR spoke with Ike in the depiction about the whole!thing making reference to the whole thing with him and Eleanor's friend there was also a film with Robert duvall as Ike though I'm not sure if that's the same film though it was about her and Ike and would be worth your seeing as well if at all possible.

He was President when I was born and from all that I have read and seen he was a pretty Awesome Dude. Just Keeping in Check all the Egos of his Subordinates in European Command was a damn big challenge. One of the Places I had the Privilege of Serving was in his Headquarters Building 7 North Audley St London UK. Cattycorner to the US Embassy.

That i very def find of interest my uncle was one of his radio operators in the 3118th sig svc battln/group which got a Pres unit citation. He was actually at the little red schoolhouse in Rheims Germany at the German surrender and actually helped send the Telex announcing it then lol swiped a copy as a souvenir he was his unit's comedian. Genl Eisenhower actually remembered him slightly at my uncle's Bach gradtn from Columbia Univ when Pres Eisenhower was Pres there before his election, just figured you might find that of interest, he saw Patton, Bradley, Marshall I think, and def Churchill as well as most of the senior staff.

Eisenhower was our Commander in Chief during my Marine Days but the Commander who we jumped through hoops for was Ole Chesty. Most in my company were happy to see him retire in 1955. But his policies remained in effect for a few more years.
