This is a good read on our long history regarding nation building. Four years to win WWII and nearly a decade and a half in Afghanistan. Anyone understand why? Other than not going medieval like we did in the two we won.

I think that the Afghans don't want what we are offering. The Germans and Japanese ultimately did (after we defeated them). I mean democracy within the confines of a unified nation-state.

LTC Peter Hartman - You can lead a horse to water, but may have to water board him to gain acceptance of all the good things we offer.

I would rather advise against mission creep. We achieved our initial goals in Afghanistan quickly. Hanging on to give them democracy is where we ran into failure.
