SrA John Monette - Seeing that he ended up in a cheap hotel in Cleveland, I guess they might have buried the money and forgot where it was. The story ended, I'm told.

After a little internet digging I found out that in Cleveland, Lefty changed his name to Nap LaJoie and played Major League Baseball for the Naps (incidentally, the team changed it's name from the Blues to the "Napoleons" as a honorific to sweet hitting LaJoie) where in 1903 he won the American League Batting Championship. He also coached and played with the Naps until 1915. After 1916 history seems to have little to say about Lefty, though friends suspect he boarded a tramp steamer on the Mississippi and headed down to New Orleans where he took a ship to the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico and changed his name to Patrick Mickelson. After spending a few years in Mexico City, history shows he reappeared in San Lucas on the tip of the Baja Peninsula, where he married Consuela Santos and had 6 children. This was long before tourists turned San Lucas into a Cabo Wabo disaster. He also coached the San Lucas Marlins, a Mexican League MLB farm team. After he finished coaching, he spent his final years basking on the beach in the warm sunshine with his wife, where he was known for his propensity for 2 fingers of top shelf tequila and the occasional bowl. He died on February 7th, 1959 and was buried in an unmarked grave. Interestingly enough, Professional Golfer Phil "Lefty" Mickelson can trace his family tree back to San Lucas and Lajoie through his mother's side of the family. And now you know the rest of the story!

SrA John Monette - What happened to the money, you ask? It is assumed that Lefty, on his way from Mexico City to San Lucas, detoured up into the Chihuahuan Desert south of Ciudad Juarez where he spent 6 fruitless months trying to find the spot where Lefty and he buried the money. However, with Lefty being a consummate Realist and extremely resourceful person, he never missed the stolen money and continued on his way to San Lucas.
