Brings back memories. My crew and I helped capture the first penguins (Adelies and Emperors) for Sea World in San Diego. They brought all the birds back, and they were all dead within 4 months or so. There is a common avian fungus that resident birds built up a resistance to, but the penguins were defenseless. Next year we captured more and Sea World implemented various sanitary measures like a betadine shoe wash and other procedures. No real problems since. Sea World maintains a list of folk authorized to go into the pens. I'm on page one. If you ever pet one of these birds, the first thing you'd notice is how quickly your hands heat up. That's due to the remarkable insulation their layered feathers create.
You learn from your mistakes. The second year we wore raincoats. Adelies eat krill, a small red shrimplike creature. When you chase them down, the nervous birds gets rid of it out the back end with their tails flapping. Puts up a pretty good chunky red mist. You can't unsee or unsmell the process of getting the frozen stuff out of your beard. Going into the Mess Hall without a shower was a "Packing Offense".
