Maj Robert Thornton, that is the sentence he faces. The Judge has put this clown behind bars while he stands trial because he is a flight risk due to the legal action against him.

As far as I can find, Snowden didn't sell anything to the Russians, but he did give his story to the Guardian, who then published it along with the Washington Post, about the "overly broad" surveillance of American citizens, information about PRIZM, and data mining phone and internet companies, all of which were beyond the legal limits of what the NSA was supposed to be surveilling. Whether you think he did the right thing or not, nothing points to him being a Russian asset, other than the fact it was one of the few countries that wouldn't extradite him.
Enforcement of the Whistleblower Laws tend to get overridden by the Espionage Laws, which if we are honest are often used to silence or punish Public Employees that disclose things that embarrass the bosses or current administration, often about doing things that aren't legal or at least highly questionable.
Dalke is actually accused of selling secrets and got paid by an individual he assumed worked for the Russians.
